ROGZ ACADEMY MENTORS

As of 2023, Rogz Academy and Boost Africa Foundation have joined efforts to assist the primary schools in Dunoon and Joe Slovo townships through the YearBeyond Programme.

About the YearBeyond Programme

The YearBeyond (Yebo) programme supports youth unemployment by aiming to ensure that by the age of 25, young people are responsible, independent, healthy and active citizens. The programme recruits young people aged 18-25 into a structured 10-month development journey focusing on work readiness, professional competencies, personal growth and progression to the world of work or study. At the same time they are provided with training and placed in a meaningful work experience to provide literacy and numeracy for Grade 3 and 4 learners support in under-resourced schools in their communities.

Throughout their journey these YeBoneers are provided with mentorship and socio-economic support Let’s meet this year’s mentors.

Meet Our Mentors

Nozipiwo (Piwo) Ningi is the Rogz Academy Mentor, Sinovuyo (Vuyo) Xhashimba is the Boost Africa Foundation Mentor and Anele Kwaza is the YearBeyond Mentor-in-training which includes formal training to gain skills at the YearBeyond Mentor Academy.  They are collectively helping to implement the YearBeyond (Yebo) programme, and mentor the vibrant youth group of 42 YeBoneers.

Piwo: Our Rogz Academy Mentor

Nozipiwo Ningi (Piwo) grew up in Port Elizabeth, has a passion for music but an even greater passion for uplifting youth. She loves the idea that you can plant a seed in foundation phase (like learning to read and write) and that skill stays with a person their whole life. Find out more about the role she plays as the Rogz Academy mentor.

Vuyo: Boost Africa Foundation Mentor

Sinovuyo (Vuyo) Xhashimba moved to Cape Town when she was 18 years old and has always known that her life would end up “in front of crowds” because of her love for public speaking. Watch her interview where she shares what has been the best (and most challenging) aspect of being a mentor.

Anele: Yearbeyond Mentor-In-Training

Anele Kwaza always wanted to study further in Teaching or Community Development but life had other plans. After a gap year and some volunteering, she has found her roots again where she is able to uplift and give back to the community close to where she grew up.

Good Luck Team!

We wish Piwo, Vuyo and Anele all the best for their roles as the Mentor Team for 2024! May they continue to empower our youth and make a difference in so many young lives.
